Single leg X Guard - Straight Ankle Lock Switch

Same as the day before except today we looked at what to do if the pull the ankle off the hip. In this situation they will push the foot off the hip and scoot their arse over the top of the foot. When this happens put the inside foot on their hip in the same spot the old one was and pull the outside leg under to hook their arse. Pinch the knees together to keep it tight.

 Today we switched up to a new module, that looks like it will focus on the legs. X Guard (from back) Start from open guard Cross shins foot inside Grab their ankle Pull their ankle towards us to break their back Shoot our inside leg between their legs Hips off the ground Inside leg on their hip Outside leg hooking their arse Squeeze the knees to control the leg Bum must be off the ground to keep it tight Straight Ankle Lock Tip them over to the side Reach through to get the guillotine on their foot Drop shoulder and head to the mat Finish by tightening everything Raising the guillotine hands to the chin And twisting away from the opponent 

Front headlock high elbow guillotine

Today's lesson followed on the theme of turtle and all four attacks. Defend Turtle Attack with Roll I'm in turtle and the the the opponent reaches in for the underhook. At this point I trap their arm above the elbow with the armpit of my elbow and turn them over with a technical roll, where I kiss my offside knee. Once over establish side control. Turtle Attack: Take the back and Japanese neck tie

Today's lesson was on turtle attacks. Get the back from turtle The first move was to take the back when you can get a hook in. First get an over-under grip, then push the knee into the gap and up towards the other players groin, then use your right foot to catch their inside ankle. Next drop back towards the mat and use the ankle hook to torque their knee across the map away from their body and roll them over. Try to establish the hooks on the way over. Japanese neck tie Use this when the person is too thick to get the figure of four for the d'arce. Get over-under in front headlock position, thread the under arm through as deep as possible and form a palm up gable grip. Hook their foot their inside foot (optional) and then roll them over with the scissor action, now if you can't get the figure of four, drop to shoulder and hips so my head is on their back and their head in my chest, then walk in my hips to their hips while tightening everything up for the tap.

Front Headlock Anaconda Choke and Darce

First lesson today, first time back on the mats in over a year and the focus was front headlocks. I messed up the first move, so will need to come back to that later. But both moves started from the front head lock, opponent on all fours, me in front with one hand on a chin strap and the other hand cupping their elbow. The kind of position we might find ourselves after stuffing opponents single leg. Key points for the headlock is to put our weight through our shoulder onto their neck and have have at least one knee off the ground. John Danaher suggests being in a run position, as if we were going to run towards the side that's not holding the chin. Next we shoot the chin hand under the armpit for the gable grip, CHIN HAND UP.
